2013 National Boy Scout Jamboree Opening Ceremonies

This picture was posted on Facebook yesterday by the Order of the Arrow (Boy Scouts honor/service organization) from the National Jamboree. The Jamboree is being held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve near Mount Hope, West Virginia.

SOMEWHERE down there among the 40,000+ people is our son – code name, Alex Rider! But where is he? Your guess is as good as mine! Based on a picture he texted to me this week, I suspect he’s left of center, maybe about half-way or so back from the stage – that’s about all I could tell you! For all I know, he could be all of the way back!

Are those barracks buildings in the background? If not, where do they sleep and eat? J

Those are tents. All of the blue tents are scouts and are 2 to a tent. The white tents are leaders with 1 to a tent. All of those tents are the smaller, approximately 5’X7′ tents that are probably only 4.5 feet or so tall. Off to the left side on “this” side of the lake, you can see some white structures. Those are full-size tents, about 8’X10′ or maybe 10’X12′ that are tall enough for most adults to walk right in. Those are for the staff, who have been there all summer getting ready for this 10-day event. I will post more pictures when he gets back and I can see what he took, merge those with what the scoutmasters took, and either do a photo album on SkyDrive, or create another blog page.
